2023 Universal Design Competition: HEWI magnetic shower holder awarded a prize

HEWI is committed to universal design and has always stood for accessible sanitary solutions that have a well thought-out design, a high level of functionality, and an innovative spirit. One such product is the patented System 900 magnetic shower holder from HEWI. This recently received the Universal Design Expert Award at the 2023 Universal Design Competition.

HEWI MAGNETIC SHOWER HEAD HOLDER

The new magnetic shower holder is much easier to use and, in the sense of universal design, an optimal product for all people and especially for differently-abled users. Characteristic features are easy, magnet-function-based height adjustment by sliding the shower head, intuitive one-handed operation, a fully rotatable cone bracket, and the conscious lack of the buttons and knobs usually found on such products. This means that the shower holder can be used without effort and even by those with motor impairments. Wet hands no longer hinder operation because the traditional clamping mechanism has been replaced by the innovative magnetic principle, thereby eliminating the need to exert pressure when adjusting the shower holder.

Universal Design Competition

The Universal Design Award is a competition for companies, designers, architects, students, universities, research institutions, and schools and their products, services, and architecture. It recognises designs that are easy and intuitive to use across generations. Other criteria include fault tolerance and safety, feasibility and degree of innovation, marketability and market potential, and sustainability and social responsibility.
