Support rails in the bathroom: Different models and their advantages

For those with limited strength and mobility, support rails in the bathroom provide the needed safety and support. But what support rail models are there for various areas in the bathroom? In this article, we will introduce you to the many types of holding options.

Physical uncertainties can either increase with age or arise from health limitations. Most accidents occur in the home. And a large percentage of these occur in the bathroom. Senior citizens and children are particularly prone to such accidents. This makes it all the more important to keep your customers’ bathrooms safe. Support rails are a viable option for helping your customers regaining their self-determination and comfort in the bathroom. Especially on slippery surfaces or when standing up and sitting down, holding options can be a lifesaver. There is a suitable model for each area of the bathroom. Each model offers your customers various advantages – depending on their support needs. The fixing type of the support rails also differs and is partly based on the wishes of your clients.

Support rails for the shower: Assistance with personal hygiene

Because of their nature, showers pose a serious risk. Young people or people without physical limitations can often right themselves after slipping. But with increasing age, this becomes increasingly more difficult. Create holding options in the shower.

In addition to the usual support rails with two fixing points shower handrails offer another advantage in addition to the increase in comfort: They combine a rail with shower head holder and a holding option. The solution thus allows both vertical and horizontal gripping.

If your customers have a shower stool, the hinged support rail provides additional support. The risk of danger in the shower when getting up and sitting down can thus be reduced.

Support rails for the toilet: Safely using the toilet

Another important support is provided by support rails for the toilet. They not only serve as a secure holding option but also make it easier to stand up and sit down. Extended support is provided by the hinged support rail. If necessary, these can be folded from the wall to facilitate the transfer to and from a wheelchair.

If the hinged support rail is not used, it can be stored on the wall to save space. Especially in small bathrooms, your customers will benefit from this feature. HEWI hinged support rails have a particularly pleasant feel. They are ergonomically designed with flat grip levels that increase user comfort.

Support rails for the bathtub: For more safety when bathing

Support rails installed at various points on the tub facilitate exit and entry and increase safety in this area. HEWI support rails feature a non-slip surface and cross-sections that provide pleasant gripping comfort. A dynamic, comfortable grip and an effective power transmission are thus possible.

If your customers need extended support when getting out and into the bathtub, you should use an entry aid that is clamped to the edge of the tub. The grip bar of the tub entry aid facilitates overcoming the edge of the tub. You thus offer your customers maximum comfort.

If your clients need further support in addition to support rails or an entry aid, you can use a tub head bar during planning. This is firmly mounted on the wall and runs parallel to the floor and the bath. Once the edge of the tub is overcome, the bar offers the possibility of slowly lowering into the tub.

Support rails for safe hand washing

Whether washing your hands, brushing your teeth, or blow-drying your hair, the washbasin is a central component in the bathroom. Especially because washing at the washbasin replaces showering or bathing for many of your customers because these are much more physically demanding. You can counteract possible risks at the washbasin by planning support rails in the immediate vicinity of your customers’ washbasins. You thus guarantee them a secure footing and contribute to a self-determined everyday life. For example, washbasins with integrated support rails, which offer your customers gripping comfort directly at the washbasin, are particularly advantageous. When the support is not needed, the recessed grips serve as towel holders.

L-SHAPED SUPPORT RAILS AND L-HANDLES

L-shaped support rails and L-handles offer advantages over conventional holding options in that they variably allow both vertical and horizontal gripping. Your customers can thus grab whatever feels best to them. Both variants are suitable for using the toilet, bath, washbasin, and shower.

Our L-shaped support rails and L-handles are available in a wide range of materials. They thus offer the most diverse design options for all bathrooms. With their shape adapted to the anatomy of the human hand, they provide your customers with the best possible support and maximum safety.

Floor to ceiling rods in the bathroom

By installing a floor-ceiling rod in the bathroom, you offer your customers additional support for using the tub, toilet, or washbasin. Clamped vertically or bolted tightly between the floor and ceiling, the bars offer a variety of gripping options. Models with an extra support rail at hip or chest level make it easier to sit down and stand up and guarantee a secure footing – even on slippery surfaces.

Different types of mounting for support rails in the bathroom

In addition to the different types of support rails, the installation methods of these also differ. A distinction is made between firmly screwed, glued support rails and suction handles.

The screwed installation method is probably the best known for support rails. If the holding options are fixed in this way, they are considerably more resilient than the other two variants.

On the other hand, glued support rails offer the advantage that they protect high-quality surfaces in the bathroom from damage. When the support is no longer needed, it can be removed without leaving any residue with this type of fixing. In contrast to the suction handles, these are also much more resilient and are ideal for rental properties.

Suction handles are extremely flexible compared with the other two fixing types. They are variably adjustable in height and can readily meet the needs of your customers. Because they are so versatile and leave no residue, they are ideal for travel. However, it should be noted that they have a lower load capacity than the other two types of mounting.

The type of mounting you plan for the support rails in the bathroom depends on the needs and wishes of your clients. The conditions should therefore be clarified in advance.
